Since it happens on all CDs (not just CDRs) it must be the player. I have
observed my CDC-635 behave as Bob mentioned. That is, sometimes it has
trouble starting to play a certain track but if you manually advance and
return, that track will play. This is different from Andrew's symptoms of
every advanced track or the start of every CD missing a half second of
music. What's odd is that he has a friend with the same model and the same
behavior. So that means 2 defective players? possible but unlikely. Could it
be that the switch for horizontal/45 degree/vertical positioning is mis-set?
This switch may compensate for laser positioning and account for the offset
of half a second of music (just a wild guess on my part)?
