I don't have a solution for you, but I can tell you I have the same situation with my '86 9000. Any kind of 'speed shift' at anything above 3000 rpm into 2nd gear grinds. Actually, I guess I did solve the problem - I just shift nice and peacefully into 2nd and never a grind do I get.
