Strange that Saab Insurance wouldn't quote to cover my 9-5 Estate SE with a Hirsch step 1 Trionic power upgrade. "We don't cover either Hirsch or Abbott conversions" they told me. Shame, particularly as Saab and Hirsch are supposed to be working together on these performance upgrades. Shopping around for insurance quotes has been an interesting experience. In the end I got a quote that was much the same as I was paying before I got the conversion done - so it pays to shop around. The message is that there are companies that are sympathetic to modifications, and those that don't touch them. Save yourself time by asking if they cover modified cars before they take you through the dozens of other questions they ask before they get to the "is your car modified in any way" question. The policy I took out is underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance. The broker I used was recommended by Reading Saab who carry out plenty of the Hirsch upgrades. Anyone else had any insurance problems/experiences with modifications ? At least I was honest enough to admit to the insurers I had got the work done ! Would they have been able to find out if I hadn't told them and made a claim ?! Nicko
