I've heard of a friends' turbo (not on a > Saab but still a turbo) who exploded and damaged the engine. Pardon me, but this is complete bunk. A few *thousand* miles? And then you mention it wasn't even a Saab? And, how could that possibly affect the engine, exactly? Real world answer: I had an '88 900T, one of the first watercooled turbos used by Saab. Never paid any particular attention to the spin-down time, and when I traded the car in at 247,000 miles, the turbo was still pulling strong, not leaking oil, making any odd noises, or misbehaving in any other way. I have no reason to believe that they would have gone backwards in this regard, and the staggering lack of stories about failed turbos on this list over the last many years would seem to indicate that it's a solid design. So, let it spin down if it makes you feel better, but it's probably not a big deal anymore. Yes, I understand about coking of the oil and such, but either everyone has been treating their turbos gently (not likely), or they just drive as normal and it's tolerating it just fine. Dave Hinz
