What he said..... I live at a ski resort and drive snowpacked and unplowed roads all winter. We get an average of 500 inches/year. The employees and residents *all* drive narrower tires inflated to a higher pressure in the winter for traction. Same goes for the Sheriff and Search and Rescue. On my 900, I run 185s in the winter, 205s in the summer. If you want good traction, get a good studded snowtire, as narrow as possible, and inflate it higher than what you normally run in the summer. It makes a huge difference. Here's what I get to deal with on a normal day. Yes.. that's my road.: http://www.xmission.com/~klaus/TDayStorm2001/LongCommute.jpg And after you clear the trees and get it plowed, it still is not much better: http://www.xmission.com/~klaus/6feet6days/Driveway.html http://www.xmission.com/~klaus/TDayStorm2001/TahoeOnRoad.jpg And even with four chains on a Landcruiser, you can still end up like this: http://www.xmission.com/~klaus/TDayStorm2001/StuckTLC.jpg So I think I know of which I speak. Believe me, I've experimented plenty and pulled enough people out of the snow. HTH -klaus
