Convertibles do not have roll bars, you should look at www.edmunds.com for specific feature sets on the different year models as well as fair pricing for used models. The 2003 will NOT feature the hatchback that you see in the 900/9-3 lineup. It will be a sport sedan. I think the car will be great and if they got it right could end up being SAABs best seller ever, but if I were in the market I'd probably limp along with what I'm driving for a while to see the level of issues with the car since it's a brand-new model, not based on existing models. Of course if you are considering a used '99 9-3 then the brand-new 2003 will cost you quite a bit more due to the depreciation of SAABs. If you haven't driven a 9-3 hatchback or a 9-5, you need to drive both. The 9-5 has a more refined suspension and depending on your age, the type of passengers you will likely carry, etc, could be a better choice than the current 900/9-3s. BTW, I had a '98 900SE and it was a great car til I traded it for an '01 9-3 Viggen. The later you go in 900 years, or 9-3 years, the more kinks are worked out of the car. In addition, if you get a 2000 9-3 or later you will most likely get the High Output Turbo (HOT) engine that offers 205HP vs 185HP in the ng900's from '93-99. There were some HOT engines in the later models of '99 as well, but a novice will have a hard time telling which engine the car has without doing some research on the VIN of the car, or trusting the dealer/seller to shoot straight with you. Also, get an "SE" model as the price difference for a used one with or without the SE package (leather, sunroof, sport suspension, etc) is negligible and adds some really nice features to the car. Go for it, it'll paint a smile on your face every time you feel the rush of the turbo! :^) John Atlanta
