Let's not go pushing it now. I've owned a Jeep Cherokee and a Grand Cherokee and I certainly have gotten them stuck in a variety of situations, including snow, mud, rocks, etc. I even once got stuck in a snow-covered parking lot... and no, it wasn't my fault. I don't want to write a whole 4x4 systems article, but suffice to say most SUVs, including all Jeeps but the newest Grand Cherokee with Varilocks, have open differentials, with an optional limited-slip rears. The limited-slips work only to a point, so if you get completely stuck, it will not help you AT ALL. What most people don't realize is that a sedan with good set of snow tires will often have comparable traction to an SUV with crappy, oversized all-season tires. That is why most of the cars that you see in ditches after a snowstorm are SUVs...
