A local repair station, not SAAB specialists but with a decent reputation, recently replaced the rear brakes on my 1993 900S. After the installation, dark sooty smelly smoke was emanating from the rear wheels and the emergency hand brake was so loose it wouldn't keep the car from rolling. I took the car back and they made some adjustments which eliminated both of those problems, though they claimed to have been unable to reproduce the smoke. A few days have elapsed, and I've just taken the car on the road again. After driving the car in hot weather for half an hour, in stop-and-go traffic, a noise has developed that I've never heard before, and I've owned the car since it was new and have put 135,000+ miles on it. When coasting in a parking lot going about 20mph, with my windows open, when I very lightly put my foot on the brake pedal, depressing it only half an inch or so, such that the car does not actually slow down, there is a single THUNK! that seems to come from under the car. This THUNK! sound happens once each time I touch the brake pedal very lightly in this manner. It does not occur immediately when I start to drive but after about 20 minutes or half an hour. I'm going to take the car back in, but what might be the cause of this THUNK sound? Thanks Tim Romano
