The timing belts are a nuisance, the design isn't proven and robust as the 2.3 is, and from a performance standpoint, well, I haven't found any aftermarket tuning companies offering products for the V6, where the 4-cyl Saab engines are very, very tunable. A 2.3 bolted to an auto tranny, stock, is nowhere near underpowered. Have a test drive; it's quite a spirited car even stock. The V6 was really introduced by the marketing people, who were catering to the "6 is a bigger number than 4, therefore better" mentality. Doesn't hold up to scrutiny from a performance, fuel economy, or longevity standpoint. 6 is a bigger number than 4, though. Dave Hinz
