Subject: Opinion sought - automatic transmission overhaul worth it?
Well, with the way my car has been behaving lately, I think it's about due
for a transmission overhaul.
It's a 1995 900 S 2.3NA automatic with almost 160000 miles on it. It is
otherwise mechanically sound and I've put about US$1000 into it over the past
six months on typical older car maintenance issues (major service, idler
pulleys, ignition switch).
About how much is it going to cost me to have a professional overhaul the
automatic transmission? This isn't exactly my 'dream car', per se, so I'm
not really interested in putting a lot of money into restoring it and
keeping it for the rest of my life, but I'd like to hang on to it for the
next few years at least.
I don't really care for automatic transmission in general, so is this a
good excuse to give up on the car and look for another? Will the
difference in resale value after an overhaul be greater than the cost of
one?
Thanks in advance for any and all replies.
Andrew
