Subject: Vibration Between 50 and 60 MPH :(

Hi again, ..... after a couple of garages and some (more) work, this problem is still here with my 1989 900 Turbo (see older postings). The car vibrates from side-to-side quite violently between 50 and 60 MPH. This vibration is not present at any other speed and does not occur when slowing down. The vibration is more noticeable when the turbo is boosting. I have had the front-end looked over by two garages now. There is nothing wrong with the wishbones, ball joints, tie-rod ends, CV joints, drive shafts (replaced recently), wheel bearings, wheels (not bent or out of shape) or tyres (all four the same make, age and wear). All the wheels are perfectly balanced & aligned and the car is tracking correctly. The engine mounts are fine as well - the engine block is practically static at idle. The brakes are all good - no scraping or other odd noises during driving or braking. All fluid levels are correct and otherwise, the car drives fine. What else could it be? I does seem that the vibration gets worse as the car warms up ... it isn't that noticeable when accelerating through 50-60 MPH within the first 5, or 10, minutes from a cold start. There is quite a lot of belt noise when starting from cold, but this disappears after about 20 minutes of driving. The power steering wheel (the belt driven thingy - I'm not that mechanical) does have a slight nick in it and the belt does move a couple of millimetres when rotating). I have also noticed a slight "pop" when moving just off centre to the left which is felt though the steering wheel. Could the power steering be at fault? Could the rack cause this odd vibration? TIA, Paul 1985 900i 16V 1989 900 Turbo S http://pjgh.go.dyndns.org/saab/index.html
