It isn't an Opel engine. The L850 engine was designed by Lotus
Engineering for GM and is used by more manufacturers than Saab and
Opel. It is wrong to say that Saab took an Opel engine and modified it.
Both Saab and Opel took the GM engine and adapted it for their
respective cars. The internal parts of the engine, the cylinder head,
turbo, and engine management are unique to Saab.
