I'm not sure if the '89 has the upgraded pinion bearings or not - it was right around then that they were beefed up. Check for any whine that is road-speed related, both on- and off-throttle. Also, Listen for turbo whine that changes in tone according to the boost gage. You should hear neither of these, by the way. Other than that, not too much to worry about. I'd ask about his oil changes and such, just to make sure he's been taking reasonably good care of it. > What are the typical problem areas that I should check on > my test drive? Any info would be great. It's a great car, you'll love it. I drove my classic-900 to more than twice that mileage, before I traded it in (for a newer Saab). I'd say go for it, unless there are ugly noises as above. Dave Hinz
