By no means am I a definitive authority on this subject, but I would be very careful when making such s decision. As I mentioned in a previous posting I bought a mint 1997 9000 Aero in May 2000 with 60,000km on the car. I immediately switched to using a synthetic based Mobil 1 oil, without intelligently researching the service history of that vehicle. There are some tests that show that switching from a mineral based solution to a synthetic based product is not such a wise idea. I do not "push" my car, I only give it a good run on the highway, where it can stretch it's legs. In the city, I do not accelerate to full load, as such driving habits are not likely good for a performance engine. I currently have 117,000km and have changed the oil every 3,000km, but I honestly feel that the turbo will likely require replacement in the coming months, a slight "whistling" sound can be heard when I drive with my windows down, which indicates that the bearings might be on "their way out".
