Subject: Checkin SAAB 9000 fuel injectors

Thanks to all the replied before. The engine runs roughly and idles poorly. Removing number 3 lead from the plug has no effect all the rest do, though number 2 has less efect than 1 and 4. I swapped the plugs and leads around - noeffect. Num 3 plug is clean the others are all black soot. Number 2 is slightly wet. Running the engine I can remove injector leads for 2 or 3 with no effect, I am confused as 2 seems to be burning something to turn the plug black. If I unplug 1 or 4 the engine dies. Listening to the injectors with the screwdriver trick gives a very loud tick on 1 & 4 and much quiter on 2 & 3. Swapping injectors moves the ticking sound but doesn't change the fault condition i.e. still no effect on idle removing num 3 lead. According to the manual all injectors fire together, so can I safely swap the cables between injectors ? Is there any way to test them on the bench, i.e. by supplying a voltage to them and blowing through them ? Thanks Steven Jack s.jacknopsam.net
