A failed oil control ring would make the engine smoke, that's all. Is the compression equal on all cylinders? if so, possible faults...... Sparkplug failed (check by swapping between 2 cylinders, and see if fault follows plug) injector failed(check as above) Plug lead failed (check as above, make sure you swap both ends!!) Loose wire/wire not been replaced on injector.(check all leads are firmly connected) If 3 has compression, but is less than rest........ Valve fault (possible bent stem, was head dropped on hard surface while off?) Tappet fault (may be that tappet has drained when head was removed, cure by some very spirited driving) (5000rpm+))
