Dashboards are usually made of soft material. However, there is a new trend that the ignition key may disappear altogether and be replaced by a plastic card. Once the card is verified, the car can be started by a big red 'start' button. In Sweden they have experimented with a system where the card also checks the validity of your driving license. Johannes
