Chris, The "apple juice" color is a characteristic of fuel with ethanol. Do you live in the US Midwest region? Ethanol is one of the ingredients used in some fuel injector cleaners. Ironic, isn't it? BTW, the color of the fuel doesn't always indicate anything in particular. For awhile, Amoco 93 AKI octane fuels were purple in color. They tinted the fuel to differentiate it from the other grades. The difference in fuel making for a cleaner engine has more to do with the brand of gas these days than the grade of gas. Federal law has a minimum requirement for engine cleaning additives, but the better brands often exceed those requirements and they do it for all their grades of fuel. In the past, only premium grades got the better additive package because premium gas had a habit of gumming up the intake valves more than the lower octane grades.
