Hi everybody (... hi Dr Nick) For those of you who are not aware of my Saab's story, my 1989 900 Turbo S (christened Orca) was prematurely taken off the road by some wnopsam who didn't seem to be able to avoid a line of parked traffic. The insurance company declared my car to be a total loss and that was the end of the story ... it's an old car with high mileage (what, 95,000 miles is high?); have a payout and get lost, pretty much. I have debated at length with friends (and myself infront of the mirror :) ) whether to try and have the car repaired and finally decided to let it go. Last evening, my father-in-law rang about a friend of his who has rebuilt a number of salvaged Saabs and had offered to take a look at the car. He has said that without a doubt, the car can be repaired to the quality that it was before the accident for about 500 UKP. I have therefore decided to retain the car (forefitting 288 UKP off my payout from the insurance company) for restoring. The first job is the "jig", for which I have an experienced jigger to do the job. It is without doubt (well, maybe 1 p/c) that the car will come back into line ... and then the rest of the restoration is up to me. So, she swims again :) I'm grinning like an idiot about this - I was absolutely gutted when the car was damaged and even more so when I heard it would be a total loss. I have bought another car in the meantime (a Hyundai S Coupe ... I know, it's not a Saab), but it will tie me over while the work is being done and my other Saab (the 1985 900i 16V) will make a good donor for body panels and boot since it is practically on it's last legs now and not worth the investment :( Thanks again to all who sent me commiserations and words of comfort in my time of distress - I hope you'll join me for the re-birth in a few weeks when she's fixed. Cheers all, Paul 1985 900i 16V 1989 900 Turbo S 1992 Hyundai S Coupe (Hmmmm) http://pjgh.go.dyndns.org/saab/index.html
