Yes, it's the connections at the rear lights. I had exactly the same thing in a 1990 900. I checked the bulbs and they were all OK, I didn't check the connectors to the light units though. I took it to the garage, and they fixed it with only 1/2 hour labour charge, so it can't have been too complicated. When I looked, there was clear evidence that they had cleaned all the connectors, and the problem never came back. MB.
