Subject: OEM bearings? - was Re: 9k DIY gearbox/tranny repairs?

I had my '91 2.3T Carlsson manual box recondition last year (noisy bearings). That only cost 500 GBP (also with 1 years warranty) this is a typical price here in the UK, although some of the better known specialists charge a lot more. This time it is the 2nd synchro that has gone (this I inherited from the previous owner) and I figured the same as Walt, give it a try myself and take it to the transmission specialist if it turns out to be too difficult. The partsvoice site is great, I hadn't seen that before. No use for orderings stuff in the UK, but a good guide to the dealer prices. I've now got the synchro, but the output shaft bearing (87 48 261 or 52 57 951) is on back-order here in the UK. Apparently half of the dealers here have one on order, with no indication of when (if) they will become available! This is crazy, there are dozens of bearing manufacturers that must have an equivalent product. Does anyone know the specifications of this bearing or a supplier of OEM bearings for transmission rebuilders??? I'm loath to go ahead with replacing the synchro without having a bearing ready in case the one I pull gets damaged. I'd then be stuck with a completely un-driveable car. any advice/information would be much appreciated David "Walt Kienzle" <wkienzlenopsam.net> wrote in message news:am90t802f57nopsams4.newsguy.com... > I am tackling a similar issue because of apparent problems with the 1st-2nd > gear shift fork on my 1991 9000T.
