We have both. 85 had trouble with wiring insulation and we got bit there. Wire going to distributor (hall effect 3-pin plug) shorted where it goes under the thermostat or something like that). Brakes are different. There are several other differences. Performance is similar. Sometimes the wire harness to the computer must be replaced in the 85's, I have heard. Mostly they are very similar but given a choice, I would go with the 86 unless the 85 is a particularly good deal. BTW, our 85 has about 180k while 86 has 222k miles. Charles.
