No. They were removed when Saab did the B205E and B235E engines (for the 9-5). These engines were designed to reduce fuel consumption and a number of changes were made compared to the B2x4 engines in the 9000. One of the changes was that the oil cooling was removed. It reappeared again in all B235 engines when the B235R engine (for the Aero) was introduced. Another change was a narrower bearing in the piston end of the connecting rods. This was done to reduce friction. Again the introduction of the B235R engine brought a change to the bearing. It is now a trapezoid when viewed from the side, i.e. the upper surface is still narrow and the lower surface (the one that "feels" the force from the combustion) is wider. I don't know how much difference in reliability this makes for a tuned B235E engine in normal driving conditions. Saab obviously felt the need to do these changes, perhaps to be able to pass the "600 hours at full load and rpm" test. -- G–ran Larsson http://www.nospam.com
