How many cars do you own built in the since the early 90's when they started requiring a CEL to monitor the emissions systems status ? > ALWAYS, the >check engine light has been a sign that an oxygen sensor needs to be >replaced. Nonsense. The CEL lights as the result of failures in about a dozen different areas. > Currently, my other car is a 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata, now with 125,000 >miles on it. Did you read about the Mazda dealer that refused to fix a Miata under warranty because the customer had installed a free flow exhaust ? They claimed that it was evidence that he was abusing it. In case you missed it, Saab even sells performance parts for their cars. It's an interesting contrast in attitudes. >It IS interesting, however, to see the reactions from some in this news >group when any criticisms are directed at Saabs -- even though those >criticisms are supported by the ratings of publications like Consumer >Reports. First of all, CR's rating categories are way to broad. Take a look ad what the categories really mean and you will see that they are meaningless. Also, they are based on an unscientific and statistically (totally) bogus survey method. That said, I don't think anyone here would disagree that Japanese cars are generally, and I repeat, generally, more reliable that European cars. If you want a bullet proof car, buy a Camry. Bob
