Subject: Advice on CV joint grease

I am replacing the transmission on my 1991 9000T, and as part of the process I am also replacing the inner and outer CV joint boots/gaiters. The outer boots came with grease, but not very much. The inner boots didn't come with any, so I am trying to find recommendations on the grease to use. The Haynes manual specifies different grease for the inner and outer joints: Molycote VN 2461C for the outer, and Mobil grease GS 57C for the inner. I couldn't find anyplace that sells those products. I am thinking that any grease for CV joints can be used in place of the Molycote for the outer joint, but the "GS" part of the specification for the inner joint leads me to believe that something like wheel bearing grease is being used there. Mobil is now part of Exxon in the US, so their web site for passenger car lubricants only talks about Mobil 1 Synthetic motor oil. I have looked at CV lube packages from CRC/Sta-Lube and Meistersatz, and neither of them say anything about meeting any performance specification. Walt Kienzle
