I do agree "better" in cars does not exist. I was referring to strict quality control in manufacturing - granted Saabs had a reputation for quality, but it did suffer in the late 80s and early 90s. I remember because I wanted to get one as a company car, and the fleet manager did not approve because of some reliability data he had received. That delayed my entry into the Saab world by years - I'd always liked them a lot. > ... If you like a nice smooth, quiet ride with > all of the electronic gadgets ... I am not referring to driving qualities - merely at quality statistics. I am talking strictly from memory here, but I distinctly remember that Saab's quality record, much like Jaguars withy Ford, started t pick up a few years after GM got involved. It had never been abysmal, but it had lost against BMW at the time - don't ask me why, because 1 of my 2 BMWs was service center regular. > ... A cheap car it was not when it came out new. Blend in the fact that Japanese brands have crawled up-market over the last 20 years. I think that reflects more of a change in the car industry than a Saab issue: 25 years ago, Mercedes didn't think Toyota would be taking away premium class sales from them, either. > ... That is true - I loved that windshield, it was utterly unique (and neatly aeroplane inspired). > If I hit the lottery big, I would own a silver 9-5 wagon. But I would still own > a C900 hatchback - for the winter fun :-) The wagon's are way too big for me. I am a 2-door (or 3) person, I have learned over the years. The 2 4-door cars I have owned, though very nice, never really excited me all that much. As a student in the mid-80s, I recall lusting after the Saab Turbos, and thinking they were awesome. Alas, it was still several years until I could entertain the thought of affording one, used. ...pablo
