The smart ones protect themselves with belts, and the ones who think they're invincible don't. I've seen a great poster, with the picture of a *very* scarred up kid, saying something to the effect of "Bill didn't like wearing his seatbelt. He hated the (number-several hundred) stiches even less." Again, no clue if it's effective, but at least it's attention-getting. Sure, the Saab's crumple zones and such are great in a collision, and the handling is so good that you very well may avoid some collisions in the first place, but if you get tossed from the car, it's just another large heavy thing flying through the air with you, waiting to land on your head.
