Subject: Re: 9000 Aero cutting out

Murphwiz could be right on the money - do a google search for 'My dealer hasn't got a clue, can you help? ('97 9000 Aero, Manual)' to get the full story. In summary, the symptoms described were similar to yours, the dealer replaced the ECU, dump valve, turbo, wastegate actuator BPC, head gasket etc. etc. (fortunately for the owner this was all under warranty). In the end they tried a new DI cassette - problem sorted (this whole process took months). In case your wondering what the DI cassette has to do with boost control, it used to measure cylinder conditions - knock etc. If the sensing is wrong then anything could happen. see this link for a description: http://www.vehicular.isy.liu.se/~larer/Projects/main.html Turners hill garage (tel: 01342 718799) were selling new DI cartridges very reasonably a while ago (I think GBP 95 + VAT but this may have been a limited offer): http://www.turnershillsaab.co.uk/ Alternatively try one of the specialist breakers like Neo brothers http://www.neobrothers.co.uk/ or PartsASAP http://www.parts-asap.co.uk/ for used parts - although I'd question the wisdom of getting an old DI cassette since they are a known problem component. Another likely candidate is the BPC valve as Toby Field suggests. Either way I would try talking to your dealer nicely - or find a local SAAB specialist and see if they will lend you a DI cassette and or BPC valve - the dealers have special blue diagnostic cassettes, my indy has a spares also just for this kind of thing. Good luck with the car and job hunting.
