Not sure where you see that, but my '99 9-5 (2.3t) gets 26 mpg, give or take 1mpg, and I'm not one to be described as "light on the throttle" by any means. Combination of city and highway driving. So, I'd say that the current generation does and can get that kind of mileage in a real-world situation. Dave Hinz
