You really need a "block temperature" gauge. But, what part of the
block would you measure the temperature of ? I mean, does the 
entire block have to be evenly warmed before you push past 3K 
RPM ? Just the area around the cyl's ? 

Perhaps none of this matters, as we seem to get 300K miles
from Saab motors anyway.
