Yes, it is always good to suspect the most recently changed things when problems happen, but I can't imagine that it would be related. Now that you mention it, I don't recall a way for the gas tank to get air in to make up the volume displaced by the fuel leaving it; let me take a look this evening at my '63 and '65...I'll check the '60 93 also, just for grins. I don't have a '62 anymore (sadly), but I think I still have that fender ;) > What happened was when > I was coming off the highway and was slowing down on the off-ramp the > engine cut out. When you say "cut out", was it an absolute, "I'm shutting off" kind of thing, or did it sputter like a fouled plug, or ??? > After about an hour or so I did the reverse journey. In a '62, I assume this is a non-red 850cc engine with single carb, yes? Heat shutdowns could be electrical; that'd be my first guess. I guess it depends on what it felt like when it stopped behaving. First I'd suggest changing out the spark plugs, and take special note of their condition (wet/black/grey/etc). > I thought maybe it was the gas cap thing because maybe a vacuum was > being created after running for a while. I suppose one way to test that theory would be to drive with it off as a test? > I haven't tried anything yet - thought I'd check this option first. > Any other ideas? Let's see what the plugs look like. How old or new is your coil, also? When it shuts down, go out, undo the gas cap, and see if it immediately behaves; that would point in that direction. > I'd also be surprised if the V4 cap was different from the V2 - are > you selling any of your's? If you're in the Netherlands, there may be a closer source than me, but sure, if you're in need of one to keep an old stroker on the road, no problems sending you one. Dave Hinz
