My illusions about Gislaved being a winter tyre, designed by a nation that really knew winters and built a product that works well in those conditions was shattered. And while a large corporate like Conti can make good tyres, and improve poor brands that they buy, they can never seem to match better brands that they buy and something is usually lost. Barum is an instance. Traditionally known for being a poor cheap tyre, they are now a reasonable priced reasonable handling budget tyre. A far cry the old "teflon " czech originals. I would love that a well respected brand in it's field like Gislaved can carry on being one of the best in it's field, but it doesn't usually work like that. Since VW took over Skoda, the Skoda brand has been re-juvinated, but thats all it is, a Brand. They aren't Skoda cars anymore, they are VW cars, with a Skoda badge, assembled in a Skoda factory. they are a fine drive, but they aren't a Skoda anymore. -- Carl Robson http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
