Subject: Re: 2003 9-5, V6, is it really a bad engine?

I've spent the last three-and-a-half years driving a 9 5 V6. It is silky smooth, quiet, and has loads of 'go' when required. Perhaps it's not as 'good' an engine as the 4-cylinders but it's loads nicer to drive. (I've never driven an Aero, though.) I have in the past read comments that the 2.3 litre engine is relatively rough, compared to the 2.0 litre, and more recently that the V6 is redundant when there is such a competent 2.3 litre engine! Perhaps we should ignore the journalists and drive the car we like best, which is what I've done. I do agree however with the comments elsewhere in this thread about changing timing belts before they snap rather than afterwards. The other relevant issue is fuel consumption, which is clearly worse in the V6. To my mind it is a small price to pay for driving a Limo!
