Subject: Re: Size of gas tank...?

Oregon is the other US state that forbids self-serve gasoline. No real compelling reason for it being banned, but the Gasoline Dealers Association is against it and they usually come up with enough scare tactics to frighten folks and hoodwink the idiots in the Legislature. Arguments against self-serve include loss of jobs, safety, inequity to the disabled and elderly and the rainy Oregon weather. Bogus arguments all, but they seem to get the job done. So, year after year, I live with long waits at the gas station, just to have some high school dropout with no teeth fill it with regular instead of premium as I requested, not top my tank off (fussy Saab filler necks) and spill gas on the fender to add insult to injury. I say write a law that requires a full serve idiot...errr, attendant at all stations, but doesn't make self-serve illegal. If I want to pump my own gas, I ought to have the right to do so, just like everyone else in the US, (except, of course, the good citizens of NJ.) Most of the time, I love my home state's propensity for being unique and going against the grain, but this is THE one thing about Oregon that just drives me insane!!!
