The difference is turbo or supercharging. You don't usually see 100hp per liter with an engine that is normally aspirated. (I'm not saying they don't exist, but they are unusual in passenger cars). I have a friend who has a 350hp/350ci (5.7L) V8 in a Corvette. He's thrilled that he gets that kind of HP ... I try to embarrass him by telling him that if he was getting the same performance out of that engine as I am out of my Saab that he'd have 570HP. (Of course, his engine is normally aspirated). Bob
