I have heard that you should not start with synthetic oil in an older engine, but that is open to debate. > > > > 2. Filter. - What's the best. Oil will get into the filter anyway, but while it is filling the filter you are running the engine without oil. At least that is how the theory behind this practice goes. I put oil in the new oil filter before I put it on and I have never needed a engine rebuild in over 30 years of driving. The Fords died from electrical problems early and the 20 year old Volvo turbo is still going strong. My first 900 was taken out by a teenager, but the car was over 16 years old and had over 200,000 miles. I used the Mann oil filter for both my Volvo and Saabs. My Saabs are classic 900s, not the 9000 however. > > > Johannes
