Subject: Re: 1996 900 Turbo SE Clutch

Hi Scott, I had the clutch replaced on my 95 900SE turbo and it immediately developed a loud creaking noise which came from inside the gearbox. My car has the cable clutch (I'm not sure about the 96 model) and inside the gearbox the thrust bearing lever arm has two nylon bushes. When the clutch begins to wear these bushes are put under an increased load causing them to wear unevenly. If the same setup exists in your gearbox I would strongly recommend that you get them replaced. I had mine replaced after the fact and the mech's had to remove the engine to do it. (all for a $10 part !!). Peter W.
