In article <inHR9.2757$Se1.319124nopsamfep1-win.server.ntli.net>, j.clarke26NOSPAMnopsamorld.com spouted forth into alt.autos.saab... > BTW. My first car was a Skoda. It was a 1983 1.2 Estelle. It was burgandy > and I thought it was marvellous. > Mine was a pebblestone beige 120L. Very rough and tatty looking, paid £95 for it with a week on the MOT. Needed a new clutch master cylinder for £30 (fitted myself) and a starter motor for £75 (fitted with VAT), to get it driving, and £35 of welding for the MOT. Drove it for the best part of a year, before I sold it for £150, but by then, I had had the brakes overhauled, the shocks replaced with a set of secondhand(near new) GAZ adjustables, and a set of front lowering springs, fitted a set of Toyota Celica ST162 front seats, the rear from a later Rapid, and added a sports exhaust, and a weber carb, and K&N filter, plus better speakers to go with the radio cassette. So all in all I did lose on it, but I had fun. Bought the Favorit, because the 5th gear was useful for my Daily motorway run, but it just isn't as much fun as the old Estelle was, even though again I spent money on it. Just replacing bits that needed it exhaust centre section split so replaced with pattern for £30 with 2 years warrenty Rear box holed so replaced with a Sebring stainless rear box (actually invalidated my insurance because they considered it would affect the performance). shocks really wallowy even though they passed the MOT, so fitted HP sporting height adjutable struts all round and lowered it an inch (even though it still looks tall at the front). Blew up the radio cassette messing with wiring, so fitted a Pro-Plus CDplayer, and fitted better speakers all round. Original seats like deck chairs and standard steering wheel big enough for a bus, and very flexy, so fitted Cobra Monaco buckets, and an S- Racing X3 pro wheel (S-racing are the only ones to make a decent wheel boss for the Favorit except Mountney Classics) on reflection it is probably too small, as it makes reading the speedo and tacho a bit of a hit an miss affair. Plan is while I still own it is to alter the gear lever pivot ball position to shorten shifting (have a spare lever assembly to alter) Maybe remove the back seats to save weight as I rarely carry rear seat passengers. But everything I've changed (except the shocks) are all in the loft to be refitted and the decent bits can be sold seperatley. For when I sell the car. I like it, but it just lacks ooomph. -- Carl Robson http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
