A directional tyre can also be used the wrong way, but some of it's characteristics suffer. Mostly this is more noise and a slightly worsened traction. This shouldn't be a problem for a spare, as long as you know what you're doing. Having said that, I have more than once seen cars on the freeway at 120 km/h with the emergency tyre on! Practically, who has a winter tyre on his spare anyway? I don't. -- Mager
