If you're comfortable with electronics, here's what you can do... (Background:) The air mass meter is a "wheatstone bridge" circuit, and by measuring resistance settings at the connector, you can see if it's going to behave properly. There are two pins on the connector (I don't have my books here, but maybe someone else knows...if not, I can look it up) which should have a certain resistance across them. Once you get the info on which pins, and what the resistance is... there is a brass plug covering the adjustment screw for this, about 1/4" or a bit larger in diameter. It's probably staked in by the white metal housing around it being punched to hold it in - get the brass plug out. Under it, you'll find the adjustment screw, turn it until the resistance is right. It's something like a 10 or 20-turn pot, so there's lots of room to adjust. What was happening when I had the same problem on my '88 900T, was that it was very (low?), and in cold weather, it ran out of ajustment range, so things went strange. Car bucked something horrible, was completely undriveable. Adjusted the base setting in the AMM, and all was fine for the rest of the time I kept the car (maybe another 100,000 miles or so). If nobody comes up with pinout and resistance values, I'll go find the book I have them in. Dave Hinz
