There are some very high performance all season tires that do well in most all conditions. To the previous poster: All season tires are halfway between a performance and a winter tire. They give good snow performance on a reasonable car (ie FWD or AWD). They also perform well in the rain and in dry conditions. They don't give you the upper edge of a summer tire but I don't think 99.9% of the drivers out there could tell my W-rated all seasons from a performance tire. They do not have the aggressive snow pattern of a true snow but will pull you through a good sized storm (6" or so). As I mentioned in my previous post, they do a good job of clearing roads here in the USA. In most places the highways are down to clear pavement within a day. The phrase "snow packed road" is not often used. If you live in a very rural area or in the mountains you might encounter snow packed roads and may want the snow tires - along with the 4wd/AWD vehicle. Bob
