If your car doesn't fail, then you have done your dough. If it does, then you are laughing. I am laughing. I took out a 2 year extended warranty offered through my Saab dealer on my 1998 9-5SE, and, oh boy, am I glad I did! I had a turbocharger fail, replaced free, both LCD/SID displays lost pixels, replaced free, a crankcase sensor failed, stranding me on Xmas eve - free tow to the dealer, sensor replaced, on my way in 3 hrs overall, all free, the high pressure power steering hose burst, towed to another Saab dealer and replaced free. The walnut dash split at the thin bit by the door lock/unlock switch - I was told that was trim and wasn't covered by the extended warranty, but when I pointed out it was poor design, they did pay half, and modified the new trim as well to minimise the stress point so it won't happen again. The extended warranty cost me around $AUD1200 but the repairs I have had during the extended warranty period would have cost 3 or 4 times that. I don't know what country you inhabit, but I suggest you only get an extended new car warranty that is backed by Saab, through you Saab dealer. A friend of mine took out an extended warranty on his older Saab backed by an insurance company HIH. HIH went bottom up, his warranty went down the gurgler. Good luck. PS I think I will sell this Saab when the extended warranty runs out in July - don't think I can afford it if it stays so unreliable! --=20 Regards, Peter Wilkins
