Sorry Chief!! I think you will find that you are vastly in the minority with this opinion. Full synthetic oil such as Mobil1 will last more than twice as long as regular motor oil and outperform new non-synth oil when it is drained. It is not just oil marketing, it's real. Point in case, SOP on all BMW engines for the past 10 odd years is fully synthetic oil with oil changes dictated by the engine management system display. The computer does vary the change interval based on how the car is driven, but an average driver goes about 15k miles (yes that's right miles!) between oil changes. BMW engines have the same reputation for longevity as SAABs. Changing the oil at 3k miles, even with non-synthetic oil, is pure foolishness. But it's your money...
