I agree with you completely, the damn thing is a glorified power window motor! Saab dealer wants $1,350.00 for the assembly !!!!! I found a place on the web that has "rebuilt" ones for $650.00 ($150.00 core) I was thinking maybe the springs on the bar that counterbalance the top may be weak, causing extra stress on the motor. Not sure what the spec is, but the cover seems " heavy" to me ... From the prices you quoted, it almost sounds like I could order one from the UK and save money! I was also thinking about disassembling the gearbox, and see if I could source a replacement. Obviously SOMEBODY makes them, so they should be available somewhere. *shrug* I'll probably just bend over and grab my credit card.. thanks at least for a reply!
