The drain plug must have a copper ring. I don't expect your car to use any oil. 78k miles is nothing. My nearly 10 year old 9000 CSE doesn't use any oil between 5k oil changes of fully synt oil, not a single drop, and that's a fact... In the beginning I couldn't believe it and thought that there was a problem such that the oil somehow didn't get into the engine! My previous FIAT Croma needed topping up once a while, but this in itself is not a serious problem; topping up each season should not empty your bank balance. If it gets worse and you see blue smoke, then you should get it to a garage. Johannes
