Subject: Re: Sony CDX-565MXRF

Ive just installed a CDX 444 RF (10cd, MP3 model not available in this country), in a '00 93, base model. The radio/cassette unit in this car is the basic model with 4 speakers, two 8 ohm dash mounted 78mm and two rear 4 ohm 4x6 speakers. The original sound is fairly "basic" and would possibly benefit from a speaker upgrade. I considered changing the whole unit but decided against it to retain the steering wheel controls for radio/cassette use. Sound seems okay - probably not as good as a dedicated unit. Installation was straightforward - I mounted behind the rear left wheel, ran wiring from rear to behind radio (awkward enough but I was wiring in a nokia phone kit at the same time). The base model is not prewired but your SE should be - this might save some effort as you may save routing some power wires but you will need to route the antenna lead and control lead. I took power supply from a permanent 12v wire and took switched power from the radio antenna output - my cd player powers on and off automatically with the radio. I needed 2 antenna adapters to convert old style plugs/sockets on the SONY to DIN plugs on the SAAB. Mounting screws through the floor are a bit short and I need to repalce them, also I need to devise some form of casing to protect unit from accidental damage when I toss heavy goods in the rear. Hope this helps.
