I would carry a spare fuel pump and the tools, it could leave you stranded - or you could bite the bullet and give the car to me :-) I had a 1985 900 and the check valve broke - I was able to replace just the check valve, but a new fuel pump was not inexpensive. You actually might reconsider whether it is worth the expense, especially if you have other items that need repair.
