Subject: balance shaft warranty repair - bad omen or good start?

Hi all, I'm about to buy a 99 9-3 Convertible -- my first SAAB. I had a prepurchase inspection done, and Bjorn the mechanic generally gave it a clean bill of health, but pointed out some cosmetic warts as well as excessive engine noise, which he attributed to worn/defective idler and tensioner pulleys. He said this was not an uncommon problem and that the warranty (valid till September '03) should cover it no problem (also said to pay for a new belt if they don't want to cover it). I told the salesman that the sale was contingent on resolving the engine noise. He took the car to the dealer the next day. Spoke to the dealer's service manager today -- he explained that it would be a week before the parts arrive, because it wasn't the pulleys as originally diagnosed -- it was the balance shaft. So, the shaft is being replaced under warranty. The question to you, wise newsgroupers, is should I still take the car, or is this a sign of bad things down (or all over) the road? thanks, Miles
