There was no cabin heat until I "recalibrated" the system by holding down the upper right (Auto) and lower left (whatever) buttons and simultaeously releasing them after a few seconds. I can't imagine why this was so since recalibration suposedly is only necessary if the battery has been disconected but it worked for me. I am not sure if the 1988 9000 used the same system.
