Subject: weird oil filter in my 900 classic "Frantz?"

I bought a beautiful '92 900i in northern Germany last fall (I am an expatriot American musician). Since I hardly drive it it is not till now that I am doing the first oil change. When I bought it the owner showed me the aftermarket oil filter system he had installed, but I don't understand a whole lot of Deutsch now, and even less then. Well, there are these things that look like toilet paper rolls, and the filter housing is held on with a ring clamp. I figured that there would be a housing around which I would wrap a few layers of the filter paper. Actually, it appears that I stuff the whole roll into the shell. (I had to remove a few layers to get it in). This is at least the way it was, as far as I can tell, but I don't see how the oil is supposed to pass through such a thick mass of paper. I cannot find any info about this "Frantz, Stockton CA" on the web. Any info? Robobass
